Terms of Service

The rules for using Kicau: your account, the licence, acceptable use, Kicau Pro subscriptions, refunds and limits of liability.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Kicau app and the kicau.ai website, operated by Kicau ("we"). By creating an account or using Kicau, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Kicau.

1. Who can use Kicau

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are between 13 and 17, you need the consent of a parent or guardian, who is also responsible for your use, including subscription purchases.

2. Your account

  • You sign in with Google, Apple or a code sent to your email. Keep that account secure: anyone who can get into it can get into your Kicau account.
  • One account per person. Accounts may not be shared, sold or transferred.
  • Give accurate information, and tell us if you suspect someone is using your account without permission.
  • A Kicau account is separate from Pintarly. A Pintarly account cannot be used to sign in to Kicau, and vice versa.

3. The Kicau service

Kicau is an English speaking and pronunciation practice tool. It uses AI to recognise your speech, score your pronunciation and hold conversations. We keep developing Kicau, so features, material and design may change, be added or be discontinued.

We work to keep Kicau available but do not promise uninterrupted service, especially during maintenance or outages at our service providers.

4. CEFR scores and estimated IELTS bands

The CEFR levels and IELTS bands Kicau shows are estimates to guide your practice. They are not official test results, not a certificate, and cannot be used for official purposes such as school, job or visa applications.

Kicau is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by IELTS, the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, Cambridge University Press & Assessment, or the Council of Europe, which publishes the CEFR. "IELTS" is a trademark of its respective owners and is mentioned here for reference only.

Scores are calculated by AI models and can be wrong. Official test results may differ from the estimates in Kicau.

5. Licence and intellectual property

We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use Kicau for learning, not for commercial purposes.

The app, lesson material, Kiki and the other characters, the design and the Kicau brand belong to us or our licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute or sell them without our written permission.

6. Your recordings and content

Your voice recordings and the text you create remain yours. You give us a limited permission to store and process them only to run Kicau for you, such as scoring your pronunciation and generating Kiki's replies, for the periods described in the Privacy Policy.

Do not record other people's voices without their consent.

7. Acceptable use

When using Kicau, you may not:

  • use bots, scripts or other automated means to access Kicau or its AI features;
  • get around usage limits, AI quotas, hearts or the subscription gate, including by creating multiple accounts;
  • decompile, reverse engineer or try to access the source code, servers or other users' data;
  • send content that is unlawful, abusive, hateful, pornographic or infringes others' rights, including in Ngobrol;
  • try to make Kicau's AI produce harmful or unlawful content;
  • resell, rent out or share access to an account or to Kicau Pro features;
  • deliberately disrupt or overload the service.

Use of the AI features is also subject to the Fair Use Policy.

8. AI features

Kiki's replies, corrections, recaps and scores are generated by AI. AI can be wrong, imprecise or miss your context. Do not treat it as professional advice.

Do not share sensitive personal information, such as ID numbers, health data or financial details, in conversations with Kiki.

9. Kicau Pro subscriptions

Kicau can be used for free. Kicau Pro is a paid subscription that unlocks extra features, such as Ngobrol, with higher AI usage limits.

  • Bought through the store. Kicau Pro is purchased and billed through your App Store (Apple) or Google Play account, not by us. The price, currency and taxes are shown in the app and the store before you pay.
  • Auto-renewal. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period (monthly or yearly) at the current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Free trials. If a free trial is offered, the paid subscription starts automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before.
  • Cancelling. Manage or cancel in your App Store subscription settings or Google Play subscription settings. After you cancel, Kicau Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Deleting the app or your account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it in the store separately.
  • Price changes. If the price changes, the store notifies you under its rules, and for a price increase usually asks for your consent before the next renewal.

10. Refunds

Because payments are processed by Apple or Google, we cannot issue refunds directly. Refund requests can only be made through the process of the store you bought from:

Refund decisions follow each store's policy. Nothing here limits your rights as a consumer under applicable law.

11. Ending your use

You can stop using Kicau and delete your account at any time.

We may limit, suspend or close an account that breaches these Terms or the Fair Use Policy, puts other users at risk, or where the law requires it. Where possible, we tell you why first. If you think we made a mistake, contact us.

12. Disclaimer

To the extent permitted by law, Kicau is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise that Kicau will get you to a particular level, score or test result.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from your use of Kicau. Our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you paid for Kicau Pro in the 12 months before the event, or IDR 100,000 if you never subscribed.

This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia. If a dispute arises, we will first try to settle it amicably. If no agreement is reached within 30 days, the dispute will be settled by the competent district court in Indonesia.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may change these Terms. The "Last updated" date above changes too. For significant changes, we tell you in the app and ask for your consent again before you continue using Kicau.

16. Language and contact

These Terms are available in Indonesian and English. If the two differ, the Indonesian version prevails.
